Fantasizing About Burning $600 Before Sunset

I was up early for a change. I had to this morning. Dropping $50 to possibly win $600 will wake me up. So I remembered to crawl out of bed by 9:00 and sit in front of the computer and pick my players for our office Fantasy NBA draft. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my team, especially compared to my first team created weeks ago. I missed that draft and ended up with half a team of injured players that I traded for a crew of bench warmers. I'll keep closer watch on this new one since there is some money on the line and bragging rights at the end of the season. I haven't followed basketball as much as I did during the later 80s - early 90s, so hopefully this will get me back into it. I've been a huge Kings fan the past couple of years, but they had their championship chances and ruined it. Its weird following my Fantasy players. Last Saturday when the Kings were playing the Rockets, I was going for Sac of course but at the same time I was cheering for Juwan Howard and Jim Jackson on Houston since they are on my first fantasy team. I wonder what I can get with $600. We'll see in a couple of months. I know I would spend that in a day.

One place trying to collect money from me last week was Blockbuster. The phone was ringing for days bothering me about a $16.00 late fee. Apparently they went thru a collections agency to gather a measly 16 bucks since they forgot to get a credit card number from me when I got a membership a long time ago. Great, a credit hit for something that isn't a big deal. So when I told the manager at Blockbuster that it wasn't my fault that some insufficient fool didn't get a card number from me, he told me that he would give me a month free on their Freedom Pass. Since then, I've been trying to take advantage of it everyday, taking out two DVDs that I want to watch but have no desire to buy. Of course I don't have the time to watch two movies a day. Burn baby burn...

Eminem's new CD Encore is coming out in a couple of days. I was able to get a copy last week and it hasn't left the car since. Its all typical Eminem material though- Kim, Hailie, beef, etc. on Dre beats but some of the experimental sample stuff is crazy. One track samples "Toy Soldiers" from Martika and another uses "Crazy on You" from Heart. It sounds like Eminem is running out of subject matter but the CD still has some standout tracks. Forget about the stupid first single "Just Lose It" and the now politically irrelevant second "Mosh".

Also out today on DVD is Before Sunset which I've been waiting for since it didn't play in any theatres around here. I enjoyed the first, Before Sunrise. I remember being glued to the TV the first time feeling like I was eavesdropping on a private conversation about politics, art, philosophy and trying to make sense out of this and their own lives. I think I'll watch the sequel right now...

...just watched Before Sunset, starting off nine years after Jesse left Celine at the train station. It was more than I expected and then some. Cool stuff, especially if you did see the first one nine years ago and waited that long to see what happens. It's very similar to the first (walking and talking for one and a half hours) but this time around is more refreshing and gets right down to all the "what ifs" in their lives. This will make you smile when they smile, feel mad when they are mad, and want to break down when they break down because it feels as if you waited nine years with them for another chance meeting. And it will definitely make you think at the end and make you itch for another one. (Watch/rewatch Before Sunrise before this. If you saw it nine years ago and still have the memory of the final 20 minutes in your head, even better.) Some people might find that a movie purely based on dialogue is boring, but after waiting almost a decade for Before Sunset, I found a memorable story out of both.
